Brett Mares (Associate)

Brett focuses his practice on commercial litigation, with an emphasis on contractual disputes.  Brett also defends clients facing product liability lawsuits.  In addition to his robust motion practice, Brett has defended clients' interests at countless depositions.  He writes and speaks on topics of concern to business owners, including commercial contracts, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, and employment agreements.  Brett's practice includes the representation of multi-national corporations as well as local businesses. 

Brett joined Heyl Royster shortly after graduating from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2011. As a law student, Brett concentrated his studies on litigation and governmental law. He earned an Upper Midwest Human Rights Fellowship, which he spent at Northwestern University School of Law's Center on Wrongful Convictions. Brett also joined the Minnesota Journal of Law & Inequality, where he published an article on emerging familial DNA technologies.
