Megan’s practice is focused on defense litigation. Her experience includes counseling and defending diverse clients in a wide range of legal issues, including complex tort litigation, commercial disputes, and municipal and land-use law.
Before joining Heyl Royster, Megan spent five years litigating claims involving contractual disputes, municipalities, wrongful death, premises liability, products liability, construction accidents, motor vehicle accidents, toxic torts, and property damage – first at another law firm and then as an in-house attorney for a major insurance company.
Megan routinely drafts and argues routine and dispositive motions (including motions in limine), drafts pleadings and discovery responses, deposes witnesses, and represents clients in mandatory arbitration, mediation, and pre-trial settlement conferences. Additionally, Megan investigates, retains, and consults with experts on a wide variety of issues. Megan’s experience as a former in-house claims attorney for an insurance company makes her particularly adept at working with insurance claims professionals on case strategy, procedure, and valuation.
Megan earned her law degree from DePaul University College of Law, where she was the recipient of the CALI Award for Legal Analysis Research & Communication, as well as the winner of DePaul’s interschool negotiation competition.
