Brad has spent his entire legal career with Heyl Royster, beginning in 1980 in the Peoria office. Born in Pekin, Illinois, he became a partner in the firm in 1987. His defense practice has included a wide variety of civil litigation matters. He is the partner in charge of the firm's Employment Law Practice Group. He also manages the defense of workers' compensation cases and civil rights and municipal claims in the Peoria office.

Brad had handled a full range of employment cases on behalf of employers in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies including the EEOC and IDHR. These cases range from claims alleging discrimination to related tort claims such as defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and wrongful termination. He has also handled breach of employment contract cases.

He serves as counsel to Eastern Illinois University Board of Trustees, where he advises the Board on a wide variety of legal issues confronting the University. He has handled unfair labor practice charges in connection with collective bargaining on behalf of the University. Brad has also negotiated agreements with a variety of unions on behalf of clients. He is also a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys.

Brad has been active in legal professional organizations in the areas of workers' compensation and employment law. He is a past chair of the employment law committee of the International Association of Defense Counsel. Brad is president of the College of Workers' Compensation Lawyers (CWCL), and he is a frequent speaker to legal and industry groups on topics involving employment, civil rights, and workers' compensation law.

He also serves as a facilitative mediator having completed the Northwestern University Mediation Skills Training Program and is a member of several conflict resolution and mediation organizations. In 2015, Brad was appointed by the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) to serve as a member of the faculty for the IADC's 43rd Annual Trial Academy at Stanford Law School.
