Deb concentrates her practice in the areas of employment law and transactional matters, including acquisitions, mergers and commercial contracts. She is the Chair of the firm's Business and Corporate Organizations Practice and Agribusiness Practice. Deb is Vice Chair of the firm's Healthcare Practice, and she regularly provides counsel to healthcare providers on issues related to employment and contractual matters. She is also the firm's current Hiring Partner.
Deb's employment law experience includes litigation in state and federal court, representation before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, National Labor Relations Board, Illinois Department of Human Rights, Illinois Human Rights Commission, and the Department of Labor, and hearings before the Illinois Department of Employment Security. She routinely counsels and guides employers through the extensive number of laws and regulations governing the employment relationship. She works with employers to avoid litigation when possible by counseling them on matters such as employee discipline, terminations, non-compete agreements, independent contractor agreements, employment policies, wage and hour matters, and severance agreements.
In the healthcare industry, she has drafted Medical Staff Bylaws and regularly drafts and reviews physician and other contracts for hospital clients. Deb has also prepared and revised a number of employee handbooks, company policies, hospital policies and provides advice on employment law matters.
In addition, Deb represents corporate defendants in agricultural arbitration matters such as grain contract defaults before the National Grain and Feed Association.
Upon graduation from Southern Illinois University School of Law, Deb served as in-house counsel for Roadmaster Industries, Inc. in Olney, Illinois. After Brunswick Corporation purchased the bicycle and toy division of Roadmaster, Deb served as the Industrial Relations Manager before returning to the in-house counsel position of Brunswick's bicycle division. She counseled the division in all aspects of its legal needs with a concentration in labor and employment matters, business transactions, and risk management.
She has been a speaker to industry groups and clients on topics related to state and federal laws that govern the employer/employee relationship, as well as other legal issues facing businesses.
In 2015, she was named one of the Top 50 in Illinois Downstate Women Lawyers by Leading Lawyers.
