Recent Webinar: The Abolition of the Public Duty Rule for Local Governments

03/03/2016

With its January decision in Coleman v. East Joliet Fire Protection District, the Illinois Supreme Court abolished what was known as the "Public Duty Rule." This decision will have a tremendous impact on local governments who provide public services to their community – most notably – police and fire departments.

On March 3, 2016, Heyl Royster's Governmental Practice put on a webinar that covered, among other things:

  • General Comments on Tort Immunity
  • Historic Interaction Between the Public Duty Rule and Tort Immunity
  • The East Joliet Fire Case and its Impact
  • Practical Take-Aways in Light of the Abolition of the Public Duty Rule
