Proud to serve in his hometown, J. Tyler Opel is an Associate attorney in the firm's Edwardsville office, where he has deep ties to the community. Tyler concentrates his practice in casualty/tort litigation and formulating defense strategies for trucking and transportation companies facing catastrophic injury claims.

Prior to joining Heyl Royster, Tyler worked for a premier civil defense firm in St. Louis, Missouri. In this role, he represented clients in state and federal court cases involving trucking accidents, premises liability, wrongful death claims, personal injuries, toxic torts, construction claims, and other general insurance defense matters. Additionally, Tyler served as counsel for a real estate development company in Denver, Colorado, where he successfully developed a small residential community in the Denver metro area. These diversified experiences have equipped Tyler with a unique skill set to handle a variety of complex litigation matters.

Tyler earned his Juris Doctor degree with a specialization in Business and Transactional Law from Southern Illinois University School of Law. During his law school tenure, Tyler enjoyed working in the SIU Civil Practice Clinic, where he provided free legal services to elderly residents of southern Illinois. He was also a summer law clerk for United States Magistrate Judge Clifford J. Proud in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.

Outside of the office, Tyler enjoys being outdoors and spending time with his family.
