Charlie Kenney

Based in Heyl Royster’s Springfield office, Charlie represents clients in Sangamon County and throughout central Illinois. His approach begins with understanding both the facts and his client’s objectives. Drawing on a scientific background and significant experience handling municipal matters, he brings a methodical perspective to evaluating claims, developing strategy, negotiating resolutions, and preparing litigation cases.

Before joining Heyl Royster, Charlie represented the City of Springfield in hundreds of matters involving governmental risk management, accidents, damage to municipal property, code enforcement, and litigation. His work included evaluating claims, pursuing recoveries, negotiating resolutions, developing litigation strategy, and representing the City in court through trial.

That experience gave Charlie an early and extensive understanding of the practical considerations that accompany legal disputes. He recognizes that an effective strategy needs to account not only for the legal issues involved, but also for a client’s operational, financial, and wider objectives.

Charlie approaches advocacy with detailed preparation, responsiveness, and professionalism. Whether researching a complex legal issue, examining the details of a claim, or appearing in court, he focuses on providing clients with thoughtful counsel and a clear path forward.
