Tyler Smith

Drawing on his experience in the courtroom and as a negotiator, Tyler Smith has a knack for cutting through complex legal issues to get to the heart of a case. He divides his practice between business law and estate planning — two areas that, at their core, share the same goal: helping clients protect what they have built and plan with confidence for what comes next. Whether he is helping a business navigate a high-risk situation or guiding a family through the estate planning process, Tyler offers straightforward and practical solutions. From lumber yards to telecommunication companies to individuals and families, he recognizes the importance of providing accurate, clear, and prompt guidance, and he applies this approach in legal proceedings, business meetings, and planning conversations alike.

Tyler typically handles his own appeals and serves as outside general counsel for the businesses he represents. He manages their litigation needs and helps them navigate creditors’ rights, collection challenges, and employment and labor matters. He also works closely with the firm’s governmental and municipal law groups.

As a dedicated student and proud alumnus of the University of Illinois College of Law, Tyler’s academic excellence was recognized with the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for Advanced Legal Research. He also received the prestigious Lincoln Scholarship and the Illinois Law Merit Scholarship. His commitment to the legal field was further demonstrated during his clerkship for the Honorable Judge Blockman of the Illinois Sixth Judicial Circuit.

In his free time, Tyler enjoys spending time with his lovely wife Laura, his son William, and his daughter Elizabeth. He also enjoys building computers, composing, playing and recording music, and playing games with friends. To truly relax, Tyler enjoys hiking and playing in the Appalachian Mountains and their rivers.
