Joseph Guyette

Attorney in Champaign, IL

Joe has handled cases from pre-suit investigation through trial and appeal, and is licensed in Illinois and Indiana. He concentrates his practice on defending Workers' Compensation, trucking, premises liability, and motor vehicle claims. As a Certified Medicare Secondary Payer Professional, he regularly counsels clients regarding the Medicare Secondary Payer Act and offers strategies for resolving claims while limiting potential Medicare liability.

Joe's Workers' Compensation practice focuses on dockets throughout central Illinois, and he regularly represents clients at the Urbana and Springfield dockets. He has tried dozens of cases and handled appeals through the Commission, trial, and appellate court. Joe is the former chair of the Illinois State Bar Association Workers' Compensation Section Council, where he continues to present at their annual ISBA Advanced Workers' Compensation Seminar.

Additionally, Joe has represented various defendants in tort and civil claims throughout Central Illinois and Western Indiana and has successfully tried a number of cases to verdict in bench and jury trials. He has represented clients in state and federal Courts, the appellate court, and the Court of Claims.

Joe began his legal career at Heyl Royster as a Summer Associate in the Champaign office and joined the firm as an Associate after graduating from the University of Illinois College of Law. While in law school, he served as the Articles Editor for the University's Journal of Law, Technology and Policy. Joe is a member of the 40 under Forty Class of 2015 and has been recognized as a Leading Lawyer℠.
