Peoria, IL – The law firms of Heyl, Royster, Voelker & Allen, P.C., and Kavanagh, Scully, Sudow, White & Frederick, P.C. announce that effective August 1, 2022, the partners, attorneys and staff of the Kavanagh firm will be joining Heyl Royster.

Founded in 1883 (as Worthington & Page), the Kavanagh team joins Heyl Royster in Heyl’s 112th year in the practice of law. The Kavanagh attorneys bring Heyl Royster to a firm of 115 attorneys, practicing from 8 offices throughout the Midwest, across wide-ranging legal disciplines.

“Combining these two great law firms will greatly enhance the services available to the clients of both firms,” said Heyl Royster Managing Partner Craig Young. “Kavanagh is one of the oldest law firms in Peoria and its long-standing impact on the community will continue through the practice and activities of its exceptional attorneys joining Heyl Royster. While both firms are full-service firms, Heyl Royster is primarily known as a litigation firm, and Kavanagh’s expertise has focused on business matters, local government, and transactional areas.  The benefits for the client base of both firms will be significant as a result of our combined practices,” Young noted.

“When considering a potential home for the 140-year Kavanagh legacy of service to clients and community, we found Heyl Royster’s expertise, culture of innovation, and leadership in service mirrors the history of Kavanagh and is an ideal platform to grow with our client needs,” said Bob Gates, Kavanagh Partner, “We anticipate a seamless transition for our clients, and also look forward to serving Heyl’s clients,” Gates said.

The Kavanagh partners will join Heyl Royster in its Peoria, Illinois, office, and they will now serve all Kavanagh and Heyl Royster clients. These new Heyl Royster attorneys will serve clients from all of Heyl Royster’s locations, including Peoria, IL; Champaign, IL; Chicago, IL; Edwardsville, IL; Rockford, IL; Springfield, IL; St. Louis, MO; and Jackson, MS.

Joining Heyl Royster will be Attorneys Phillip Lenzini, Karen Stumpe, Brian Mooty, Gary Schmidt, Bruce Thiemann, Ann Pieper, and Bob Gates, along with the talented legal support team currently with Kavanagh.  While they will be integrated into all of Heyl Royster’s practice areas, their expertise will primarily enhance the firm’s business practices, including business organizations and transactions, mergers and acquisitions, estate planning and administration, commercial and residential real estate, intellectual property, creditors rights, banking, employment and labor (employer’s side), governmental, and healthcare.
