We are pleased to share a significant legal success achieved by Heyl Royster in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Western Division. Attorneys Lindsey D'Agnolo and Emma Grace Redmond-Mattucci from our Rockford office obtained summary judgment for two correctional nurses in a civil rights lawsuit. The plaintiff claimed that the nurses violated his Fourteenth Amendment rights by delaying medical care after he reported a shoulder injury and alleged dislocation from falling from his bunk.
Ultimately, the Court granted summary judgment in favor of our clients, finding there was insufficient evidence to support the plaintiff's claim of a dislocated shoulder or that the nurses responded to his complaints of pain in an objectively unreasonable manner. The defense team strategically established specific facts in discovery showing the nurses responded in a timely manner and provided reasonable care, thereby refuting any claim of unreasonable delay. The Court's decision underscores the importance of comprehensive legal preparation and a fact-based defense strategy to successfully advocate for our clients.
Congratulations once again to Lindsey, Emma Grace, and the entire team on this outstanding achievement.
