Laura Buecker

Laura is an Associate attorney in the firm's Chicago office, covering the city and collar counties. Drawing on her Molecular and Cellular Biology/Pre-Med degree, while focusing her practice on defending medical entities, physicians, and other healthcare providers against medical negligence claims, gives Laura a unique perspective. With an emphasis on medical malpractice defense, civil rights litigation, long-term care/nursing home litigation, and toxic torts, Laura's love of legal and medical research serve her well. Before her tenure at Heyl Royster, Laura worked as discovery counsel for another firm, developing and implementing discovery strategies in complex litigation and government and internal investigations focusing on e-Discovery.
Advocating for individuals has always been Laura's highest priority. Before law school, she worked as a victim/witness advocate in the Sangamon County State's Attorney's Office in Springfield, IL, later returning as a law clerk, using her 711 license to represent the state in traffic and misdemeanor cases. While attending the University of Illinois College of Law, Laura earned the CALI Excellence for the Future Award® for the highest grade in the Domestic Violence Clinic, where she represented survivors of domestic violence seeking orders of protection in court. She also was the Articles Editor for the University of Illinois Law Review.
Laura loves cooking, reading (especially sprawling fantasy series), golf, running, and horseback riding, and is always up for a friendly conversation about dogs, hot sauces, and her opinion on the ending of Game of Thrones. Continuing her dedication to service, she is an active volunteer serving on the University of Illinois Alumni Board and the Junior League of Chicago.
